Sequencing

Sequence: ordered steps through time

Think about the sequence of the following passage. Pay attention to the signal words. What is the order of events?

First event – signal word “begin”

Second event – signal word “next”

Third event – signal words “go on to”

Fourth (final) event – signal words – “then,” “finally”

Cause and Effect

A good way to find the correct sequence is through cause and effect. A cause makes something happen, so an effect would follow.

Directions: choose “cause” or “effect” for the bold part of the sentence.
