Pronouns

A pronoun takes the place of a noun or words acting like a noun.

Without pronouns, sentences would be long, boring, and repetitive. Pronouns also have several types. Below are the personal pronouns.

First Person I, me, *my, mine we, us, our, ours
Second Person you, your, yours you, your, yours
Third Person he, she, it, him, her, his, her, hers, its they, them, their, theirs

Pronouns in bold are called possessive.

Pronouns reduce repetition.

For example:

  • Jack and Jane eat dinner at a restaurant. They think it serves the best pasta.

Without pronouns, the sentence would look like this:

  • Jack and Jane eat dinner at a restaurant. Jack and Jane think the restaurant serves the best pasta.
