Complement

Subject complement

The subject complement follows the Be verb or other linking verb and provides more information about the subject.

For example: Jonathan became a father at a young age.

  • Jonathan is the subject, and a father is the complement.

Object complement

The object complement follows a transitive verb and provides more information about the direct object.

For example: Sarah considers Cindy a good friend.

  • Cindy is the indirect object, and a good friend is the object complement.
